is an interdisciplinary performance and creative exchange platform dedicated to creating interactive arts events with a fluid and non-hierarchical structure.
It was created in Montréal
in 2014 in response to a shared feeling of frustration with single-discipline focused performance modes that prioritize self-characterization and inward thinking at the expense of fertile creative exchange, interpersonal engagement and interactivity.
To bridge a divide
between fruitful artistic communities within and without the Montréal university arts sphere, and to provide an opportunity for creative exchange between emerging and established artists, KALYX defined an arts event structure around the expressive use and cohabitation of spaces.
Believing in the capacity of art to act as a border-breaker,
KALYX events seek to displace artists from structures that inhibit free collaboration and that prize perfectionism, instead framing play, process, and public improvisation as a mode of authentic, expressive performance.
Not-for-profit, open-call events
presented by KALYX have provided a collaborative performance platform, installation space, and networking environment for more than 150 emerging and established artists across disciplines.
Our events have been graciously supported by the Concordia Fine Arts Student Alliance, the Alumni Association, the Student Union, and the Council on Student Life. and have been hosted at a variety of Montréal spaces including Eastern Bloc, Pine Collective Healing Space, Théatre Porte Rouge and the 10 des Pins loft community.
